Biography
Spencer Williams (1893–1969) directed and acted in independently produced features made for Black theatrical audiences in the 1930s and 1940s, working with budgets a fraction of studio scale.
The Blood of Jesus (1941) is his best-known film and was added to the United States National Film Registry, which the Library of Congress maintains for films judged culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.
